Aston Martin by Henry Astor

Founded in 1913 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford Aston Martin has come to symbolize speed and elegance. For us speed enthusiasts, it’s a name that is associated with the Golden Age of European track racing. In 1922 Aston Martin made its first racing appearance at the French Grand Prix.

In 1928 Aston Martin raced Le Mans 24 race and thus begun a relationship that has lasted to this day. In 1951 the DB2 came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the 3 litre class. (In 1947 David Brown had bought the company and started naming the models DB.) Production models had a 6-cylinder engine that put out 105 bhp.

Perhaps the most famous car was the DB5 that was used in the Bond film Goldfinger. That they had to crash it was enough to make a grown man cry.

When we look at Aston through the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s we see true art and lines that defy the imagination. For my money they lost their way in design in the 80’s and early 90’s but found it again in 2002 with the DB7 Zagato.
